Located in Killinochchi a rural town in the North of Sri Lanka is an initiative called 'Weave'. 'Weave' consists of a number of small weaving co-operatives run by a passionate group of women who are committed and enthusiastic in their pursuit of reviving handloom traditions in the north, once a thriving source of income and creativity to the area. The groups are supported by local NGO Chrysalis, who are assisting the women in business development, skill development and marketing.
AMMA is providing employment to three women from 'weave' who are hand weaving our raw cotton fabric which is then naturally dyed in our highland workshop. We are currently using this fabric for all our new product ranges.
We are thrilled to be sourcing our hand woven fabric from an initiative which is supporting rural women entrepreneurs and sustaining traditional hand weaving skills.
